Health check-ups assess and support your health and wellbeing. The check-ups also assess your work ability and functional capacity and find out whether you would benefit from rehabilitation.
You may be directed to a health check-up by employment services, social services or healthcare services, for instance. This always requires your consent. You can also go in for a health check-up at your local health station at your own initiative – LUVN/Health stations/Health examinations for unemployed peopleexternal link, opens in a new tab. During the health check-up, you will be provided with a personal care or service plan. It records the relevant plans and goals for your health, wellbeing and work ability and specifies how monitoring will be carried out.
The service is intended for unemployed jobseekers aged 18 to 65.

Conditions for participating in the service
Health check-ups for the unemployed are a statutory service implemented by the Western Uusimaa wellbeing services county. There are no separate requirements for participating in the service.
If you are directed to a health check-up for an unemployed person by your assigned specialist, your consent is required in order to disclose your data to the wellbeing services county. You will fill in an accompanying form for the health check with the specialist, giving your consent to the disclosure of your data to the wellbeing services county. During the health check-up, the nurse may again ask you for your consent to send feedback to the specialist.
How can I participate in the service?
You can ask your local health station about a health check-up for an unemployed person. You can also discuss the option of being referred to a health check-up with your assigned specialist.
The goal of the free-of-charge health check-up performed by the public health nurse is to identify any hindrances to your work ability, support your psychological wellbeing and life management, and promote your health, functional capacity and work ability. The goal of preventive health check-ups is to prevent chronic diseases and cure and alleviate the physical, psychological and social consequences of illnesses. If necessary, it is also possible to arrange a telephone appointment.
The public health nurse will direct you to a doctor’s appointment or a more extensive assessment of your work ability and functional capacity if needed. Doctor’s appointments are subject to the normal health centre fee. The cost of a doctor’s appointment at a health station and a remote doctor’s appointment is €28.20 in 2025. The fee is charged for the first three doctor’s appointments per calendar year. This includes both remote appointments and in-person appointments. Appointments with public health nurses and registered nurses are free of charge. If an assessment by a doctor is necessary during an appointment with a nurse, a fee may be charged for the appointment.
A fee of €56.70 will be charged for an uncancelled appointment if the client does not have an acceptable reason for not attending a booked appointment.
