I want to change my profession

If you are looking to change your profession, you can start your path towards a new career by talking with a career choice and counselling psychologist. By taking part in job coaching, you can receive support from your personal coach for selecting a new profession.

The employment areas and educational institutions provide competence charting services for various target groups, such as people aged over 55 or immigrants. Many of the areas also provide jobseekers with short-term training courses that can help you get quickly started in a new career, e.g. in the restaurant industry.

Learn a new profession in labour market training

See the labour market training opportunities provided by your employment area. The free-of-charge vocational labour market training enables you to obtain an initial vocational qualification, a vocational qualification or a specialist vocational qualification, or part of these qualifications. The employment areas also provide labour market training in cooperation with local businesses, enabling you to learn about your new field directly via an internship.

Student unemployment security

Please note that a student’s primary benefit is the study grant. You can also ask your designated specialist about the possibility of studying independently on unemployment allowance. Independent studies refer to education provided by an educational institution that is in charge of its own student admission instead of Employment Services.

During labour market training, your right to unemployment allowance is retained. It is also possible for you to study part-time and in the short term without losing your right to unemployment allowance. Always notify your designated specialist when planning new studies.

Read more detailed information about a student’s unemployment security and different ways to study while unemployed on the Job Market Finland website.
