    Free Finnish language courses (Metropolia UAS)

    Metropolia offers free Finnish language courses. You can study online at your own pace or follow a set schedule. Courses are available both online and on campus. There are also courses for the healthcare field and YKI preparation.

    The service is intended for Finnish language learners. Anyone can study. Both beginners and more advanced students are welcome. The studies are suitable for students of all ages and levels.

    Seats are filled in the order of registration. Some courses have many places, up to 1000, and there are usually a lot of spots available. Some courses have only a few places, for example 5, so you need to register quickly. If a course is full, you can join the waiting list.

    The courses are free. You need a computer or other device and an internet connection. Most courses do not require previous knowledge, but the recommended language level is explained in the course description.

    When you register for a course, you will receive a confirmation and instructions by email.

    Benefits of participating in the service

    With Metropolia’s free Finnish language courses, you can improve your Finnish skills. The courses help you with everyday situations and job searching. Courses are available for different levels. When you complete a course, you will get a certificate of completion. You can use this certificate when applying for a job, for further studies, or as part of a residence permit application. The studies help you continue learning Finnish and develop your ability to study in Finnish, for example, in higher education preparatory programme for immigrants.

    Conditions for participating in the service

    The courses are suitable for everyone who wants to learn Finnish, especially for immigrants. You do not need to have previous schooling. The studies are open and free of charge.

    If the course is an online NonStop course, you can start at any time and study at your own pace. There is no fixed schedule, so you can complete the tasks whenever you want. You need the ability to work independently and motivation to complete the course. For online courses, you also need your own computer and an internet connection.

    If you are an unemployed jobseeker, you can participate in the courses as a hobby. You do not need permission from employment services, but it is good to inform your personal employment advisor about your studies.

    How can I participate in the service?

    Most courses are online. On some courses, you can start whenever you want and study at your own pace. Other courses have a set schedule and may include teacher guidance or remote meetings. Some courses can also be held on campus in person. Studies are independent. Some courses have deadlines for assignments. You will get all learning materials and instructions from your teacher or find them on the course learning platform.
