Benefits of participating in the service
Career guidance and counseling help immigrants identify their skills and find suitable education and career paths in Finland. We don’t provide ready-made answers, but support you in:
- discovering the education programs or career paths that suit you in Finland
- recognizing your own skills, strengths, and areas for development
- exploring your possibilities for employment in your field in Finland or expanding your skills into new career options
Metropolia’s SIMHE services specialize in higher education and the employment of international professionals and experts in the Finnish labor market. We serve professionals from all sectors.
Conditions for participating in the service
The career guidance service for immigrants is intended for you if you are an immigrant residing in Finland and:
- have completed a higher education degree abroad or in Finland, or
- are eligible for higher education and want to apply to study at a Finnish higher education institution
-
are currently employed, unemployed, or on family leave, but are not currently studying full-time for a degree at a Finnish higher education institution.
Please note: If you are currently studying for a degree at a Finnish educational institution, we recommend contacting the career services at your own institution for support tailored to students.
Please note the following before participating:
- If you are taking part in an integration training programme, we recommend using the service towards the end of your training.
- For smooth discussion and guidance, we require at least B1-level skills in Finnish or English. If your language skills are not sufficient for independent participation, you may bring a trusted assistant or interpreter with you.
How can I participate in the service?
- In a personal guidance session with a career coach, you will assess your skills and explore suitable education and career paths based on your needs. The session lasts 1 hour. You will receive the most important links by email after the guidance session.
- Group guidance sessions aim to explore, together with others, different possibilities for studying, improving Finnish language skills, and job searching. You’ll also receive peer support and can focus on job applications – the entire session lasts 2.5 hours, so you may even be able to submit a job application during it.
In addition, you can also take part in our other events, such as career webinarsexternal link, opens in a new tab.
