    Kela – Oma väylä rehabilitation (young people)

    Oma väylä rehabilitation is intended for young people aged 16 to 29 who need support for studying or working life because of a neuropsychiatric disorder.

    • You can apply for Oma väylä rehabilitation if you have been diagnosed with either of the following: an autism spectrum disorder without accompanying intellectual impairment (Asperger syndrome) or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD or ADD).
    • The other conditions are that you need support for your studies or working life and that you have difficulties with your social skills or managing your everyday life.
    • In addition to a neuropsychiatric disorder, you may also have been diagnosed with another psychiatric disorder. However, your mental health must be good enough to allow you to study or work.
    • If you have acute substance abuse issues or your goals are not related to studying or working life, you must look into other rehabilitation options.

    You can submit an application via the OmaKela e-service OR send it by post.

    • Sign the application and send it and its appendices by post to the following address: Kela, PO Box 10, 00056 Kela.

    The written decision will be sent to your home by post. You can also view the decision in OmaKela.

    If you are granted rehabilitation, the service provider will call you within about two weeks of you receiving the decision.

    Benefits of participating in the service

    Oma väylä rehabilitation will provide you with:

    • a boost to your study and working life skills
    • guidance on and practice in life management
    • support for strengthening your social skills.

    The purpose of individual and group meetings is to:  

    • support your study and working life skills
    • strengthen your self-esteem
    • provide you with ways to recognise symptoms and behaviours stemming from a neuropsychiatric disorder
    • practise your social interaction skills
    • offer you peer support.

    During group visits by family and close friends:

    • you will receive information on neuropsychiatric disorders and their impacts on the lives of the young person and their family and friends
    • you will have the opportunity to receive peer support and share your own experiences of things such as everyday challenges and coping methods
    • you will receive support for achieving the young person’s goals related to becoming independent.

    Conditions for participating in the service

    PLEASE NOTE! You cannot receive intensive medical rehabilitation services and participate in Oma väylä rehabilitation at the same time.
