The initial language proficiency test assesses your level of Finnish proficiency. Once you have completed the test, you will be directed to suitable integration training, instruction in reading and writing skills or other training or services.

Who is the service for?
The service is suitable for you if:
- your municipality of residence is located in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area (Espoo, Kauniainen, Helsinki, Vantaa), Central Uusimaa, Eastern Uusimaa, Western Uusimaa or the Raseborg region
- you are entitled to an integration plan
- you are in the initial phase of integration.

How can I participate in the service?
Your assigned specialist will direct you to an assessment of your initial Finnish proficiency.
Benefits of participating in the service
After the test, you will receive an assessment of your level of language proficiency and a recommendation on training or services suitable for you.
Conditions for participating in the service
The client’s need for services is assessed by their assigned specialist.
How is the service organised?
The initial language proficiency assessment is conducted in person. It takes 1–4 hours.
The initial language proficiency assessment includes:
- an assessment of the ability to read and write using the Latin alphabet
- an assessment of Finnish proficiency:
- language proficiency by competence area (listening comprehension, speaking, reading comprehension and writing)
- language proficiency by skill level (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, from level 0 to level B1.1)
- an assessment of learning skills in order to identify the most suitable training path.
