Qualification training for nurses with a degree completed outside the EU/EEA
The studies in the nurse qualification pathway help you obtain the official authorization (professional practice rights) to work as a registered nurse in Finland.

The price depends on which studies you complete.
Theoretical studies: 25 euros per ECTS credit; Work placements: 45 euros per ECTS credit. Participants also pay themselves for any examinations included in the studies.
If your employer pays for your registration studies, provide your employer’s billing details when you register for the study units.
Participants themselves pay the Finnish Supervisory Agency’s application fees, document-related costs (for example translations and certifications), as well as other similar fees and any vaccination fees.

This training is for you if:
- you live in Finland
- you have completed a nursing degree (Bachelor’s or Diploma level) outside the EU or EEA
- you are applying or intend to apply to the Finnish Supervisory Agency for the right to work as a registered nurse in Finland, OR you already have a decision on additional studies from the Finnish Supervisory Agency
- you have sufficient Finnish language skills (at least level A2–B1). Your Finnish skills will be assessed in the admission interview, and a separate language certificate is not required.

- Selection process
- Only eligible applicants are invited to an interview.
- In the interview, your Finnish language skills are assessed both orally and in writing.

Conditions for participating in the service
- You live in Finland
- You have completed a nursing degree (Bachelor’s or Diploma level) outside the EU or EEA
- You are applying or intend to apply to the Finnish Supervisory Agency for the right to work as a registered nurse in Finland, OR you already have a decision on additional studies from the Finnish Supervisory Agency
- Your Finnish language skills are at least at level A2–B1; language skills are checked in the interview, and a separate language certificate is not required
- You have sufficient IT skills and equipment (for example a computer and internet connection) for online studies.
How can I participate in the service?
The service proceeds in stages:
- Initial assessment
We review your previous nursing education and work experience and identify the competencies you already have. - Personal study plan
We prepare a personal plan for your studies and registration. The plan is based on the initial assessment and, where applicable, on the Finnish Supervisory Agency’s decision. - Studies
You complete the theoretical studies and work placements defined in your personal study plan. During your studies, you can also strengthen your Finnish language skills. - Verification of competence
You demonstrate the competence required for professional practice rights during your work placements and examinations. - Registration
Finally, you apply for professional practice rights as a registered nurse from the Finnish Supervisory Agency.

Teaching is delivered in a blended learning format. This means that you will study partly online and partly on campus.
Contact teaching takes place at Metropolia’s Myllypuro Campus in Helsinki.
Your studies will be planned according to a personal study plan, and it is possible to complete them alongside work.

The duration of the studies is approximately 6–12 months. The exact length depends on your personal study plan and on which courses and work placements you need to complete.
