KIT – Finnish language proficiency self-assessment tool
The KIT tool, provided by Employment Espoo, can help you assess your Finnish proficiency. Your assigned specialist will provide you with a link to the language proficiency assessment, which you can complete on a phone or computer. Based on the results, you will receive suitable support for your job search.

The Finnish language proficiency self-assessment tool is suitable for you if:
- you are able to read and write
- you have no vision, hearing or speech impairment that would make it difficult to carry out the assessment
- you are able to use a smartphone, tablet or computer
- your language proficiency level has not been assessed recently.
The Finnish language proficiency self-assessment tool is NOT intended for you if:
- you are participating in integration training
- you are attending a Finnish language course for which you will receive a language proficiency certificate
- your language proficiency level has been assessed recently.

Your assigned employment services specialist will provide you with a link to the Finnish language proficiency self-assessment. You will also receive a PIN code that you will need to log in to the self-assessment page.
You can complete the self-assessment at home or in another calm setting. If there is no calm place at home, you can complete the self-assessment at a library, for instance.
To complete the self-assessment, you will need a smartphone, tablet or computer and a working microphone.
The self-assessment will take about 20–60 minutes.

- You will receive an assessment of your Finnish proficiency level. You will find out what you are good at and what you still need to practise: speaking, writing, listening or reading.
- Once you know your language proficiency level, you can start planning your future and employment in Finland in more detail.
- Employment services specialists receive more accurate information on your language proficiency level and are able to provide you with suitable assistance for your job search.
Conditions for participating in the service
- You are able to read and write Finnish.
- You are able to use a smartphone, tablet or computer.
- You have no vision, hearing or speech impairment that would prevent you from participating in the assessment.
- Your language proficiency level has not been assessed recently.
- You are not currently participating in integration training or a Finnish language course for which you will receive a language proficiency certificate.
How can I participate in the service?
How to carry out the self-assessment
- You can complete the self-assessment at home or in another calm setting.
- You can use your personal smartphone, tablet or computer.
- You will need a working microphone.
How the self-assessment works
- The self-assessment takes place online.
- Usually, it will take 20–60 minutes.
- Once you have completed the self-assessment, you will see the results immediately.
- Your assigned employment services specialist will also see the results.
Where to find instructions for the self-assessment
- Your assigned employment services specialist can provide you with instructions for the self-assessment.
- The specialist can give you the instructions during a meeting or send them to you by email.
- You can also find instructions on the self-assessment website after logging in. They will help you during the self-assessment.
Please note!
Complete the self-assessment in time. At the latest, complete it by the date agreed on with your assigned specialist. This date is specified in your personal plan.
